Dr. Phillips received a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from the St. Louis School of Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Utah. He completed his clinical pharmacy residency at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City. Dr. Phillips has taught at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, the University of Washington in Spokane and and the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri. He is currently a Research Associate Professor and Director of Research for the Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Dr. Phillips is board-certified as a Pharmacotherapy Specialist. His research focuses on development of drugs for treating gastric-acid related disorders such as stress ulcers in critically ill patients and gastroesophageal and extra-esophageal reflux disease in pediatric patients. Dr. Phillips hold three patents, the most recent being for Zegerid, an immediate release, oral proton pump inhibitor formulation that is licensed to and marketed by Santarus, a San Diego-based specialty pharmaceutical company.
Dr. Phillips is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys camping, exploring, scuba diving, sailing, photography and astronomy.
